Homemade nut butters are a good source of protein without containing preservatives, damaging fats, salt and sugar, which are normally found in commercial brands.

Cashew and Almond Nut Butter

This naturally sweetened cashew and almond nut butter will stay fresh for 4-5 days when stored in an airtight jar in the refrigerator.


¾ cup of raw pre-soaked almonds
¼ cup of raw pre-soaked cashews
½ cup of soaked dried dates (may be ommitted if unsweetened butter preferred)


  1. Add soaked almonds, cashews and dates to a food processor or blender
  2. Process the nuts and fruit until a thick, spreadable paste is formed.
  3. If paste is too thick add either some cold pressed almond oil or water

Other nuts and seeds may be used to make butters: pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds are all suitable alternatives
